What a fine and noble idea:
Sometimes art too deserves explanation

A favourable reception should be extended to a new catalogue of the paintings in Galleria Colonna (edited by Patrizia Piergiovanni, De Luca editore, 304 pp.), one of those Roman collections that has made the history of our taste. It is a slim book you can take with you on your visit (unlike so many grotesque catalogues, thick as encyclopaedias, of ephemeral exhibitions). But at the same time the text is rigorous, written by specialists and not without innovative proposals. Of particular interest is a very rare and previously unpublished sketch by the young Pietro da Cortona, one of the great masters of Roman baroque.
